A Man doesn’t choose what he desires

 

Can’t remember which Holywood film this comes from but this morning it seemed like the quinessence of Buddha’s teaching.

Desires come from somewhere other than ourselves and seek things other than ourselves. We are thus the unwilling participants in a game between things we don’t know and things we don’t know. How is this freedom?

We are only a rest when what we desire meets what we find in the world … but the chance of this happening is also out of our control.

The only option it seems to be at peace again is to reject that imposter called desire.
