An unenlightened person who does not know the answer to this will be somewhere. Perhaps they will be husband or wife, a parent, not a parent, a boss, a worker, rich, poor, success, failure, happy, sad, fulfilled, unfulfilled, well, unwell, lucky, unlucky or if they get more metaphysical body or mind, conscious, or unconscious etc etc etc
There will be things that the unenlightened person considers the ground of their existence. They are somewhere.
First thing to note is that all of these have their opposite or counter part. If we are here, we are not there. If we are rich we are not poor etc etc etc
Now the long and short of everything is that from this place we will go on journeys. Like the Deepseek mentioned in a recent blog here the Mahabharata is an epic journey for the Pandavas.
Now these journeys are usually undertaken assuming that where we are going is better or worse than where we are.
The whole literary and mental sphere is dominated by stories. We hope for a happy ending but not always.
Now eventually we get to the edge for the story world. Like with the Mahabharata we eventually get tired of the journeys.
Questions like "Meaning of life?" and "why are we here?" are moments of rest where we stop our journeying for a second and either wonder what we are doing, or more abstractly wonder what the whole thing adds up to in the end?
BUT the problem is that we are still somewhere. As long as we are somewhere we are destined to travel to somewhere else.
THE final move is not to end up somewhere, or even to stop it is to let go of the belief we are somewhere.
Now this not another journey. We do not get an out of body experience where we fuse with the universe or anything like this. The point is the belief we are somewhere is wrong. To fuse with the universe we mist BE in an unfused state. There is still a journey to do because we are somewhere still.
We need drop this whole idea of being somewhere, of even being. Being happens because of us, not the other way around. A dangerous statement of course because use of the world "us" probably means someone, somewhere so nothing improved. But if we are looking at being for a place to stand we are wrong, it is not like that.
Now this is not nihilism of anything other than the false belief we are somewhere. That false belief will keep spinning around in circles until it ends. That is all there is to this.
So the meaning of life and why are we here, cease when we realise we (unlocated self) have always been here and meaning itself depends on this. Even the thoughts that derive such questions depend on unlocated self. If we are asking these questions today, we were not at some other time so we know that they are not primary: the awareness that is timeless, present always and everywhere is needed for those questions to both have not been and now are!
