Keep Mobile!!

A friend who works in prosthetics made a very good point that I am bearing in mind.

When we are immobilised by an accident our muscles weaken. Trying to move again after everything has mended involves a lot of effort and work to bring the muscles back to the same condition (the normal condition for daily life) that they were in.

He then highlighted how hard it is for the elderly to recover from periods of immobility - often an impossible task! Once they fall into immobility they can never recover, and then the immobility just becomes self generating.

It occurred to me, and the reason I blog it, how important it is not the enter the slippery slope as we age of becoming progressively more unfit and immobile as it is a slope that we might never be able to climb again.
