This blog has dealt with "loop" a lot via SRH. The essential problem with loops is that while they may appear to join up with their start like an ouroboros
But in reality it is linear in time, and the "loop" is akin to Douglas Hofstaedter "strange loop": the structure resembles itself as time progresses so that if looks like it is looping, but it is not.
Now the "call of the void" is actually a loop. It works like this:
You go “oh shit that’s a long way down”, “imagine if I fell”, “oh shit why am I imagining falling”, “do I want to fall”, “no I don’t”, “but then why am I thinking about it”, “if I do want to fall this is proper scary shit”, “I’m panicking this is real serious scary shit”, “get me out of here I’m about to jump”…
Now there are two things here:
(1) you wont’t jump (brains scans have proved this)
(2) if you wanted to jump you wouldn’t be scared. People who want to jump actually want to jump, it’s not scary.
This is where we can show that the loop is actually linear. If we really wanted to jump we would just do it. The fact that we are scared and don't want to think this shows us this is not what we want. SO we can unravel the thoughts and base them not on thoughts but upon the reality that we don't want this.
